Every sports fan wishes they were there for the biggest moments in sports history. To usher in the 2026 Winter Olympics, we gave fans the opportunity to relive the most historic hockey moment of all time: The Miracle On Ice, the 4–3 upset victory by the United States amateur hockey team over the heavily favored Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
To make attendees feel like they were there in 1980, we acquired the best tech available in 2026. We used state-of-the-art technology, holograms, and artificial intelligence, to go back to Lake Placid and invite the fans and the players from the game to experience the miracle again.
We used never before seen footage to break down entirely new angles, motion data from the original footage, 35 projects, 1,200 feet of trussing, 354,634 unique frames, and the largest piece of hologauze that has ever been manufactured. With this hologauze, the team projects translucent film to reproject the layers which gave a pseudo-3D element to all the players, which were made using metahumans. To really immerse the fans, the arena was also reconstructed to look and feel like it did when the miracle first happened in 1980.
As the official sponsor of the 2026 Winter Olympics Men’s Hockey team, Michelob Ultra not only sponsored this trip back in time – but is directly responsible for making it happen.
